But how can we witness as Christians in a broadcast culture which seeks to marginalise us to the point of invisibility or misrepresent us to the point of unintelligibility? Richard Coles, parish priest and broadcaster, explores strategies for survival in mainstream media.
Richard Coles is a musician, journalist and Church of England priest. He partnered Jimmy Somerville in the 1980s band The Communards, which achieved three top ten hits. He also appears frequently on radio and television as well as in newspapers. Last year he became the regular host of BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live programme.
