In the beginning there was a sacred object that promised us satisfaction and wholeness; a sacred object that continues to make its presence felt in various religious and secular forms. In this talk Peter will argue that the scandalous event testified to in Christianity proclaims a freedom from this sacred object. A freedom that enables us to discover how the sacred is actually a depth dimension found in all objects.
