Speak Up for the climate with Christian Aid

A guest blog from our main partners, Christian Aid.

Climate change affects us all – and finding solutions needs all of us to be involved. This July, Christian Aid and the Climate Coalition invite you to Speak Up for the world we love.

When it comes to taking care of the environment, there is one man who appears to believe that acting unilaterally is the way forward. But whatever President Donald Trump thinks, the rest of the world knows that working together is the only way we are going to be able to halt the threat of catastrophic climate change. Despite the USA pulling out of the Paris climate change agreement, global leaders are continuing to affirm their commitment to the pledges they made to cut carbon emissions and striving to keep global temperature rises well below 2oC.

This turn of events reminds us that we cannot take these promises for granted. The actions required to make enough difference to stop the world overheating will need time and effort to put into place. Our political and business leaders need to be in it for the long haul, and we need to help them stay focused and on track.

Climate change is the single biggest threat to the people and places we love, here in the UK and in every country around the world. We know that most of the UK public want to see progress on increasing the amount of renewable energy being used. But our politicians aren’t always ready to take action unless they realise how much we care, and how many of us care.

Last week’s election means we have a fresh set of MPs in Westminster, some new, some old. And when the dust settles, they all need to hear our messages of solidarity and hope for a better world – a sustainable world, not one built on fossil fuel.

We need to join our voices together so that the people in power will listen. That’s why Christian Aid is working with members of the Climate Coalition this July to Speak Up for the world we love. Our week of action runs from Saturday 1 July to Sunday 9 July. Right now, people in all corners of the country are gearing up to organise events in the local areas and Speak Up to help protect the things they love from climate change.

How will you get involved? Sign up, join in with what’s already happening or create your own event. Invite your MP and tell them why they need to act to protect our world. Find all the information and resources you need here: https://www.theclimatecoalition.org/woa
