Safeguarding Lead - Freelance / Part time

Reporting to Head of Operations

CONDITIONS

Hours of work Freelance / Part time – approximately seven days on-site at the festival, plus periodic meetings set at flexible times, and two days in-person at Team Leader days (both are Saturdays).

Working base Remote (with on-site presence at Greenbelt Festival, Kettering, UK)

Salary Freelance – negotiable

What will I be working on?

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safeguarding Lead to spearhead our safeguarding efforts throughout the year and during the festival itself. This critical role involves recruiting, training, and leading a team of safeguarding volunteers, ensuring the well-being of all participants, and supporting the Head of Festival Operations (who acts as DSL) on safeguarding concerns, policy updates, and related issues.

What are my responsibilities?

Including, but not limited to:

  • Volunteer Recruitment & Training:
    • Recruit and onboard a team of safeguarding volunteers, many of whom are already in post, but eachyear may require some additional.
    • Design and deliver training programs to equip volunteers with the necessary skills and knowledge.
    • Support the Head of Operations to ensure all GB volunteers are up-to-date with safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • On-Site Leadership:
    • Lead the safeguarding team during the Greenbelt Festival, overseeing operations and responding to safeguarding concerns.
    • Be present on-site for approximately 7 days during the festival to manage and support the team.
    • Work closely with the Head of Festival Operations to handle any urgent safeguarding issues that arise.
  • Year-Round Support:
    • Assist the Head of Festival Operations with updating safeguarding policies and practices.
    • Stay connected to the Greenbelt safeguarding volunteers.
    • Provide ongoing advice and support on active safeguarding concerns if necessary.
    • Attend key events such as the Team Leader Day and Ops Day (once per year each).
    • Participate in a few online meetings throughout the year to stay connected with the festival team.

We’re looking for:

Professional Background

Current or recent experience in a relevant field such as social work, senior safeguarding lead, police work, or a related discipline.

Strong knowledge of safeguarding practices, particularly in settings involving vulnerable individuals.

Leadership & Communication Skills

Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to train and support volunteers effectively.

Commitment & Passion

A strong commitment to the values and ethos of Greenbelt Festival.

Passionate about creating a safe and inclusive environment for all festival attendees.

Organisational Skills

Strong organisational abilities, with the capability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
