Rediscover the craft of preaching this September at the Festival of Preaching, a new event from Hymns Ancient & Modern. The festival aims to inspire, nurture and celebrate all who are called to proclaim the gospel today.
Over three days a varied programme of worship, lectures and workshops will explore:
- Dealing with the nasty surprises in the lectionary
- The sacramentality of language
- Preaching at baptisms, weddings and funerals
- Turning a decent sermon into a wonderful one
- Parables and poetry
- Making old words do new tricks, and much more.
The Revd Christine Smith, Hymns A&M Publishing Director said, ‘We have worked long and hard on curating a programme that we hope will be the right mix of stimulation and encouragement. For those of us who preach week in week out, new ideas and fresh inspiration are always welcome. We hope that those attending will be refreshed and encouraged by outstanding speakers from across the Christian church.’
Speakers include: Stephen Cottrell, Nadia Bolz-Weber, Paula Gooder, Pádraig Ó Tuama and Mark Oakley, among others.
The festival takes place in Christ Church Oxford, 10-12 September 2017. Tickets are on sale now, with a 25% discount available to Anglican ordinands and readers-in-training.
