Uddin & Elsey’s work is inspired by political events, conditions that lead to social unrest and the spirit of resistance. “Collaboration, dialogue and participation are integral to our practice, working in performance, sculpture, video and collage.”
Their art practice is research based, process led and site specific; covering themes such as group dynamics, social tensions, political movements and ideologies.
Leah Elsey and Sonia Uddin completed an MA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art in 2004. They have exhibited both nationally and internationally; participated in international residencies including Berlin (2001, 2005), Lima (2008), Sydney (2009) and Gothenburg (2012); and have completed UK based commissions for MOT International (2006) and the Whitstable Biennale (2012).
They have produced limited edition products and publications sold at Tate Modern (2007, 2008) and Turner Contemporary (2014).
