The Spirituals, founded by music artist and Creative Director Junior Garr, along with Arranger/Conductor Marsha Morrison, emerged as a powerful response to the injustice surrounding the death of George Floyd. Their mission was to provide an expressive outlet that resonated with the global outcry against injustice.
Collaborating with TBNUK, the now viral Black History Project was created, which showcased their talents and musical story with these televised performances filmed at notable venues like Lambeth Palace and the iconic St. Paul’s Cathedral.
The group’s journey began with a focus on reimagining spiritual anthems for the Black History Project. Their EP, including the standout single Wade In The Water garnered millions of YouTube views worldwide, propelling them forward and inspiring future projects and reimagined songs.
Notably, their arrangement of the popular song “Something Inside So Strong” has become synonymous with their pursuit of justice.
Building on their success, The Spirituals hosted their own Christmas Concert at the renowned Union Chapel in 2022, creating a memorable experience for their audience. Their dedication and talent were recognized when they were honored with the Premier Gospel Best Choir Award in June 2023.
Looking ahead, the group has exciting plans to embark on a UK tour in the Autumn of 2023, with the invaluable support of their partner, Christian Aid.
