Rachel Chaplin is a classically-trained instrumentalist and composer. She released her debut album, ‘Music from an Inner Space: Psalms & sacred songs’, earlier this year, performing on piano and featuring the ethereal vocals of Evi Dobner with accompaniment by strings and trumpet. Described as ‘beautiful and powerful songs, better than any medicine’ (BBC Radio 3’s Hannah French), Rachel’s music opens up a calm and contemplative space into which her lyrics strike with beauty and depth.
Rachel works as a professional classical musician, performing and recording as an oboist with leading orchestras in the UK and abroad. She makes frequent appearances in major concert halls, currently performing the complete cycle of Beethoven symphonies in Paris and London with John Eliot Gardiner’s Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique. Last year she performed music by J.S. Bach at the Coronation of King Charles III with English Baroque Soloists. Rachel trained at Cambridge University, the Royal Academy of Music and Leipzig Hochschule für Musik, and holds a doctorate in the instrumental music of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. Formerly a lecturer at the Royal Academy of Music, she teaches oboe at Trinity Laban College of Music.
