Matthew David Morris has served in capacities from music director to intern to campus minister to transitional deacon at churches in Portland, Oregon including St. David of Wales, Grace Memorial, St. Stephens, and St. Michael and All Angels.
In May 2020, he will be ordained an Episcopal priest, and will receive a Masters of Divinity from Iliff School of Theology in June 2020.
Before beginning his theological education, Matthew David worked in the entertainment and music industries for 25 years under the stage name Matt Morris, writing music for well-known artists, producing, touring his own album, and appearing on American television as an artist and performer.
Throughout his path toward ordained ministry, he has remained an artist, a student, a cultivator of good questions, and a lover of the human heart. He currently lives in Portland with his family, which he describes as thoughtful, critically minded, creative, and introspective.
Matthew David identifies as a cisgender (he/him), queer, Anglo/Chicano person with a personal piety not unlike the 19th century Anglican Evangelicals.
