Over a 30 year period The Dan The D aka Dan Donovan has recorded 13 albums.
Derbyshire born to a Welsh preacher, Dan moved to Fenland, England in the mid nineties where he has rooted himself indefinitely.
In the late eighties Dan was invited to record a live session at the famous BBC Maida Vale studio with his then band the grungy rock Tribe of Dan. Much press, radio play, international touring and an album followed but in 1992 Dan folded the outfit to pursue a more intimate genre, embracing a stripped down sound inspired by his fondness for Tom Waits and Bob Dylan.During the following years he recorded a number of albums acclaimed in the press.
Since 2005 Dan was performing and recording as King Kool, a two piece garage sounding electric band. With 4 albums from this project under his belt he then returned embracing his solo roots. A new album featuring 12 songs from his 12 albums emerged and was a retrospective project with gritty blues, folk renditions from his back catalogue. The album was titled ‘Dan Donovan 12_12, Acoustics Sessions’.
Summer 2017 Dan was invited to record at the infamous Rancho de la Luna, Joshua Tree, California. Accompanied by Jonny Quinn (Snow Patrol) on drums and Dave Catching (Eagles of Death Metal) this unlikely combo offered new twists that compliment Donovan’s latest punky delta swampy offering now titled The Dan the D.
