Jessica Smith is a Yorkshire based artist who has recently graduated from a Fine Art (BA) degree at York St John University. Over the past year, she became the first winner of Yorkshire Sculpture Park’s Student Sculptor competition and won a Professional Practice Award through Chrysalis Arts for her degree show installation. Jessica is a multidisciplinary artist, predominantly working through the medium of painting, collage, sculpture, and installation.
Throughout Greenbelt festival, she will be exhibiting a series of landscape paintings, all utilising mud as the primary material. The work documents her experience of walking through countryside landscapes, often the Yorkshire dales. The idea of transparency behind the process of creation is vital through all aspects of her work, with a hands on approach to applying texture and gestural marks.
Jessica Smith will be displaying her exhibition Mud, Glorious Mud in the Allotment Gallery on Monday 27 August, 9am – 1pm
