Soothe is a rambunctious, thought-provoking dance show; combining emotive athleticism and cutting-edge science, from award-winning company Infusion Physical Theatre. Soothe brings to life the Three Systems model of emotional regulation: Threat, Drive and Soothe and the hormones that power them. Contemporary dance, non-traditional partnering, digital media and an original score combine with a five–cast ensemble to examine the physical and emotional effects of adrenaline, dopamine and oxytocin. In a turbulent society, Soothe is the hunt for balance between the emotions that move us.
Originally debuted at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2022, Infusion Physical Theatre received subsequent support in 2024 from The Royal Society of Chemistry, Arts Council England, Fruk Labs and The University of Cambridge for further development and touring.
Infusion Physical Theatre combines contemporary dance, non-traditional partnering, mime, puppetry and circus with soulful touches of humour and poignance. They create work that is accessible to non-dance audiences, tackling contemporary issues with a hopeful message.
Founded by Cambridge-based artists in 2013, Infusion has made site-specific work for the National Trust’s Winter Lights, performed in Project Dance (London/Paris), Somebody’s Daughter (Eyes and Ears, Ely Cathedral), Sprung (Queens College, Cambridge), and launched their innovative new Dance & Mime Café (Cambridge). The company seeks to engage audiences in discussions on life, social justice and faith through movement, and to make the high art forms of dance and physical theatre accessible to all.
