Helsinki based British band ‘Flute of Shame’ is made up of Koop Arponen (Finnish Idols winner 2008), James Lascelles and Dane Stefaniuk.
The trio met whilst studying music in Scarborough, England in 2005 where they used to busk and play in the pubs to help pay for their studies. Nine years later and the trio are still going strong, playing gigs in Finland, Estonia, Russia, Latvia, Spain, Holland, UK and this year Greenbelt!
The band have had quite a journey and in 2011 Flute of Shame represented Finland in the international song contest called New Wave and performed in front of a live audience and over 110 million TV viewers. Here they won the Alla Pugacheva prize for ‘best original song’ (‘Pictures On My Wall’) and ‘best band’.
Becoming more known for their three part harmony trade mark, Flute of Shame were asked to sing backing vocals on the new album for legendary Finnish power metal band Stratovarious (album titled Nemesis).
Flute of Shame have been involved in many televised shows in Finland, including performances on Kummit, Idols, MTV3, and appearances on Celebrity Come Dine With Me, Comic Relief and chat shows.
Every December the band give 30% of their gig money to charities including Pink Ribbon (Roosa Nauha), The Finnish International Church Aid (Suomen Kirkon Ulkomaanapu) and the Finnish charity that gives support to war veterans and elderly people.
With an average of 133 gigs per year, Flute of Shame are geared up to raise the tent roof at Greenbelt!
