Emily and The Woods are a London-based band fronted by singer and guitar player Emily Wood. Their sound blends luscious vocals, pounding drums, dark and driving basslines and shimmering guitars.
Growing up with a musical father and listening to the likes of Joni Mitchell, Simon and Garfunkel, Bill Withers and Erykah Badu, Emily and her brother were always encouraged to perform. However, it wasn’t until Emily was 17 that she picked up a guitar and was able to start putting music to songs she had been writing. Since meeting at school, the rest of the band have been playing as a collective for as long as they could pick up their instruments, with each of them going on to study music.
Having developed far beyond the singer-songwriter tag that had initially attached itself to Emily, the band’s newly honed sound is garnering praise. Reviewing their latest recording, Then We Collide, Culture magazine Hunger says “their understated approach to making music is a rare quality…One thing is clear: this is band who have arrived brimming with confidence and so they should be.”
