Dr Robert Beckford is a university professor and broadcaster. He has written numerous books on the Black Christian experience in Britain. His most recent monograph, ‘Deolonising Contemporary Gospel Music’ (2023), is a critical reflection on the inscribing of decolonial theology onto contemporary urban music for the Jamaican Bible Remix album (2019). Robert has also produced numerous television and radio documentaries. Most recently, ‘The Church’s Slave Plantation’ (BBC World Service 2022) and ‘Should I change my (slave) Name?’ (BBC World Service 2024). Robert developed the film project ‘After the Flood: the Churches, Slavery and Reconciliation’ (2021) in partnership with The Movement for Justice and Reconciliation.
