Everything you need to know about travelling to Greenbelt Festival
One of our guiding principles each summer is to tread a little more softly than we did the year before. You can read last year’s sustainability impact report here for a flavour of what we’re doing and how we’re measuring it. In it, you’ll see that we generated 348 tonnes of CO2 last year. And a whopping 98% of that carbon was generated by travel to and from the festival.
Having begun to measure and report on our carbon footprint, the next step is to try and reduce it as much as possible. That’s why this summer sees the introduction of the Greenerbelter wristband – our scheme to celebrate and reward those festivalgoers who come to Greenbelt using public transport or pedal-power, and so help us to reduce carbon emissions.
Greenbelt takes place in the beautiful, landscaped grounds of Boughton Estate, three miles from Kettering town centre. Kettering sits neatly on the main west-to-east road across central England, the A14.
It takes one hour to reach Kettering by train from London St. Pancras. There are also direct trains to and from Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield and Leeds.
If you travel to the festival on public transport, we’ll pick you up on our free shuttle bus from Kettering Station and we’ll give you a Greenerbelter wristband and some money-off vouchers on the bus. You’ll be able to use your vouchers to get a discounted drink, a discounted meal and a discounted copy of the festival guide onsite. The same goes for those of you who cycle to the festival.
It’s a little thank you from us to you for going greener and helping us tread lighter.
Shuttle bus times for 2025 will be published a few months before the festival.
Parking at the festival
If you are driving to the festival you will need a parking pass for your vehicle. Parking tickets can be purchased via our Box Office.
Weekend Car Pass: £22
Campervan Field Pass: £70
Liftshare
If you’re driving to Greenbelt, or looking for a lift, you can use Liftshare. Who knows who you’ll meet along the way, what kind of connections will be sparked and how much carbon you could save.
Getting to Greenbelt
Greenbelt is taking place in the grounds of Boughton Estate close to the house, but as you approach please ensure you follow the Greenbelt Festival AA signs and not signs to Boughton House. Directions to Greenbelt Festival will be made available closer to the festival and sent to all ticketholders via email.
We encourage all our cycling enthusiasts to pedal their way to the festival. It’s not only eco-friendly, but it’s also a fantastic way to kickstart your Greenbelt adventure amidst nature. Plus, it’s a great warm-up for the weekend’s festivities! For a detailed route from Kettering Rail Station to the festival grounds, check out our recommended path on OS or Google Maps.
We offer a designated area near the box office reception where you can securely lock up your bike, but please note this is done so at your own risk.
Prefer to keep your bike closer? Feel free to keep your bike right in your tent if that’s your preference.
For the safety and comfort of all festival attendees, we ask that you dismount your bike while navigating any of the festival grounds. However, you are welcome to use your bike to ‘walk’ your gear and panniers to your camping spot. Bikes are not permitted in the festival village at any time.
Boughton House Estate is private property. Details of when the area of the estate being used by Greenbelt will be accessible will be released closer to the festival.
Vehicles are NOT permitted into the Campsite or Festival Village. On arrival, you will be directed to a designated car parking area as directed by the stewards and make your way to the campsite on foot. Trailers (which aren’t trailer tents) must be parked and unloaded in the car park.
We open the site slightly early for those with access needs to enjoy quiet entry to the site, but this needs to be booked with Access Team. If you need any support getting onto/off-site then please contact our Access Team ahead of the festival. Golf buggy-style taxis are available on site for anyone with access issues. For any other access queries, please contact our Access Team.
